Why are butterflies so special?


An old legend of the native population on the present territory of the United States says that when you have a secret desire, catch a butterfly, and whisper to them what you crave. They say butterflies can keep a secret, so no one will know what you said. Then release the butterfly, it will fly and will do so as to balance the forces of nature and your desire will come true.

The butterfly is associated with a series of symbols. Each culture has seen special the butterfly as a special creature. Thus, the Chinese mandarins believe that the butterfly is a symbol of longevity. Therefore they called "hi-tieh" where "tieh" means 70 years. Moreover, this part of Chinese culture and young in love men are assigned to the butterfly symbol, while the Japanese consider it as representative of bodily purity and happiness in marriage.

Back to Europe and we find that Germans find butterflies similar to witches, who want to steal milk and butter, while the Greeks give a much deeper symbolism, resembling the human soul. In Greek mythology wearing the butterfly symbol us a memory of the departed soul in another world.

Due to the complex symbolism that the butterfly has, it is included in the creation of jewelry like other animals, such as elephants. In many cultures, animals receiving mystical attributes, makes them the perfect models for decorative objects and art, not only jewelry.
